Companies House ID Checks: What Every Director Needs to Know

New identity checks are coming – here’s how to avoid delays and stay compliant.

If you’re a company director, PSC, or file on behalf of a company, new ID rules mean you’ll soon need to verify your identity with Companies House. Starting now is easier than scrambling later.

What’s Changing?

From April 2025, Companies House started rolling out identity verification for:

  • Directors
  • People with Significant Control (PSCs)
  • Anyone filing company information

You’ll need to confirm your ID using:

  • A GOV.UK One Login, or
  • An Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) – like us

Right now, this is voluntary. But by autumn 2025, it’ll become a legal requirement.

For existing companies, the checks will be built into the annual confirmation statement.

Why It Matters

This is part of the government’s plan to fight fraud and improve trust in UK businesses. But for you, it means:

  • A bit of admin if you’re not prepared
  • Possible delays if you don’t act early
  • Risk of non-compliance penalties later

If you’ve got multiple directors or shareholders, this can quickly get messy. Better to sort it now.

How to Make It Easy

As your accountant (and ACSP), we can handle the entire ID check process for you:

  • No messing about with government logins
  • All checks filed properly with Companies House
  • You’ll be ahead of the game

If we already manage your company filings, we’ll add this in as standard. If you’re doing it yourself and want to switch, we’re here to help.
